Helping computer science students understand course material, write their code, and prepare for exams across three courses.

Teaching computer science

Alongside my studies, I worked as a teaching assistant for three courses in TU Delft’s BSc Computer Science and Engineering programme. Most of my work was helping students in the lab, with additional responsibilities in assessment and maintaining course projects.

In the lab

The labs were spaces where students could come to study and work on assignments. When they had a question, they joined the queue at queue.tudelft.nl, and a teaching assistant would come over to help.

I answered questions, explained course concepts, helped students debug their code, and guided their preparation for exams. My aim was to help students understand the reasoning and find their own way forward.

Beyond the labs, I graded exams, took part in exam reviews, supervised exams, contributed exam questions, and maintained coding projects used in the courses.

Web and Database Technology

Teaching assistant for Christoph Lofi, Associate Professor.

An introduction to building web applications and working with databases. The web component covers HTTP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side development with Node.js, alongside an introduction to database technology.

Information and Data Management

Teaching assistant for Christoph Lofi, Associate Professor.

A closer look at databases, covering database concepts, design, and implementation, with a focus on relational databases. The course develops students’ understanding of how information is organised and managed in database systems.

Concepts of Programming Languages

Teaching assistant for Taico Aerts, Lecturer / Software Developer.

An exploration of how programming languages work through implementing interpreters in Scala. Topics include functions and closures, scope and environments, mutable state, and type checking, connecting language concepts to executable implementations.

What made it rewarding

What I enjoyed most was the appreciation from students, hearing that an explanation had helped, and being greeted with a smile when we crossed paths on campus. Those small moments made the work feel worthwhile.
